BIO:
Mercedes Flores is a Los Angeles based self-taught painter born in Acapulco, Mexico.
Daughter of immigrants residing in Orange County had to immigrate to avoid violence and growing safety concerns that affected Acapulco, earned a hybrid degree in Design and currently specializes in print related design work, while still creating art, developing new topics to explore through images and participating in open calls.
STATEMENT:
My paintings are an amalgamation of imagined and figurative elements that create scenes. A poetic thorough vision of the immigrant woman experience, my heritage and permanent state of yearning.
These compositions and objects reflect on the ways in which these themes and personal experiences intersect. My work features physicality, focus on detail and intense color palettes.
